My work is a spontaneous investigation into character development through the juxtaposition of figures and, objects operating in peculiar spaces and, scenarios. The work I create links the pop culture movements of the early 1990s Image comic books and, mid-1980s animation to specific elements of film, such as cinematography and, method acting.
In similar fashion to comic books and, animation, my interest in film started at an early age. Movies such as Legend and Terminator were essential building blocks in the primitive years of my film education. I am absolutely fascinated with the directors and, actors ability to solve problems in story pacing, composition and, character development throughout a film. I use the theory of film composition and, blocking to stage and, design my large scale drawings.
Pulling from the elements of mid 1980s cartoons and, early 1990s image comics creates a vague sense of nostalgia that resonates beneath an energetic wall of graphite that is layered down upon the paper. The specific element of nostalgia combined with aggressive compositional design creates a brief sense of a new a past or, an old future.
